So, what exactly was it you did for a living again?

Ok, it's no secret that Baby Sunshine is quite the little cry-baby, or 泣き虫 ("naki mushi" literally "crying insect") as they call them here in Japan. As Baby Sunshine is our first baby, we didn't really have much to compare to, but when Mrs. Sunshine meets up with some of her "mommy-friends" and a host of babies, it's painfully obvious that Baby Sunshine is the only baby without the ability to shut up and relax for a bit even if there are new faces and a different environment.

In fact, her crying can be so intense, that I expect her to make her Japanese grandpa cry as well at one point or another since he always looks so sad when he wants to say hi to his granddaughter, but the moment she sees his face she bursts out into tears and won't let up until he's left the immediate area.

But in any case, I tell myself that this is only a temporary phase and by the time she's around 25 years old or so it should be a little better, but one thing that I've never understood here in Japan is that, when I complain (in a jokingly way) about the cry-baby at home, the friendly comment that I often get back is "well, she's a baby, crying is her job" (泣くのは仕事だから). I haven't really exactly understood how this can be her job and if it is, how come we're not seeing any of the money? Wouldn't it be better to have her work in a sweatshop or doing something more meaningful?

haha, dude, I've got FIVE, and if we would be paid for all their crying "jobs", by now I would have retired to some tropical island.

Please carry a diagram of a "joke" around.

So you can say:

"This is you..
this is the joke going over your head
cuz your stupid. Wanna see it again?...You...joke....miss!! Your dumb...like a stone" (pointing at the stone painted on the corner of the story board so they can get that one ;)

Chris idéa might bee perfect for a T-shirt :-D

Wy not ask Mrs. Sunshine. With her background - She might be able to hook the baby for a sweatshop job?

Hang on, you're expecting her to stop crying excessively after a mere 25 years? Possibly a low estimate there...

Sadly some kids, for whatever reason, just really hate (or like) some people. It is unfortunate when that is a close relo or friend, but they normally grow out of it.

Maby if grandpa would try to feed her he might gain his trust.

See this is one of the reasons I plan on having kids, but then giving them away until they're at least 2, 2 and half. You know, when they've started to become "people". I love kids! I really have no special attachment to babies. They either bore me or they cry. :P
Perhaps if you drew a new job description and showed it to Baby Sunshine she'd realised she's Doing It Wrong? :D Or use one of those creepy subliminal tape things when she sleeps (mmm Brave New World vibes!)

They dry because they have nothing better to do. They are board and cannot really communicate verbally, so they bitch and cry until you are able to correctly guess what will shut them up.
