This is what the simplified symbol of Star Trek looks like (ok, I know it's a simplified logo of the "Starfleet" or something, but let's face it, it's become the Star Trek logo by now).

You should check their organisational chart to see if there is a Warp Drive Research Department.
Maybe some Star Fleet personnel time travelled back (must be true, saw it happen in a movie!) and are secretly developing advanced technology?
