Break a leg!

It's very true that Japan has a low crime rate and is a very safe country but sometimes there's stuff coming up here in the news that is just plain weird and the latest one I find particularly amusing/disturbing since it involves babies...

Apparently a woman in her late twenties stalked a baby goods shop out in the countryside in Ibaragi prefecture and asked a woman with a 2 months old baby to let her hold the baby since it was so cute. But she didn't only hold the baby, when the mother looked away she quickly twisted the baby's legs so badly that the hip joints broke and when the baby (obviously) started crying and was handed back to the mother (who later on went to a hospital and discovered the injuries), the woman then hung around a bit longer and 20 minutes later repeated the process with another mother and her baby, but was discovered and taken in by the police.

Apparently the "reason" was some form of unhappy marriage or something and jealousy of how happy the mothers looked with their babies that she apparently found some relief in breaking babies legs... If you can read Japanese take a look here (tv news from youtube here). It also some that there's some indications that she might have made a full time hobby out of this with several more broken baby legs out there.

I think this is up there with the crazy dude who threw a kid down a 10 story building or so because he "wanted to know what it felt like". Believe me when I say that Mrs. Salaryman-Sunshine will not hand over baby Sunshine to anyone asking her to in the near future...

Let's hope Mrs. Salaryman-Sunshine can tell the difference between a human baby and a gerbil.

i find this story incredibly depressing. of course i am shocked and horrified over the fact that this woman broke babies' legs (more than one!) but i can't help but feel sorry for someone who has no other outlet than to hurt innocent infants.

that said, lock her up for a very long time! 2 months is tiny! hell, 3 months is tiny. mama bear is getting angry....

and, not to blame the mothers in anyway but, you should never let a total stranger hold your baby/child.

Innocent of what!?
Noone would do such a thing without a really good reason. I´m sure the babies deserved it somehow.

well, not knowing the babies in question, i cannot answer. for all we know, they did a massive poo just as the woman took them in her arms....

It is in many ways odd...I mean she could have an affair or clinch her claws into a rubber ball to shake the stress. I guess she thought "If they are unhappy I will be happy" and that is a sore looser side of things

Who IN THE FUCK would let a stranger...a bonifide genuine stranger hold their baby?? They outta have their children taken away from them after they get outta the hospital. What if the women had decided to swing them like a baseball bat against the nearest pole??

Fuckin moronic mothers ensuring a future Japan that is even more fucked up than today.

Penguin - Well, it's a learning curve!

Martin and Illahee - Yep, I think there a number of questions that need to be clarified: was the baby dressed in any such way as to indicate that it wanted to get it's leg broken? Did the baby in any way behave in such a way as to invite a leg breaking?

Fernando - Well, generally I agree with you that breaking babies legs is a pretty bad stress outlet...

Chris - Yep, Baby Sunshine will not be handed to any strangers, it only take one lunatic to make for a very unhappy incident

Aimless - I hope they're there now at least!

That picture is really cute. Is that a gerbil?

I hope the babies are okay and that she didn't cause any lasting damage. Young'uns heal quick, but babies are especially delicate because they're still developing new connections in the brain and all that jazz.
