....enjoying the commute...?

Recently something very strange has happened, I am now actually looking forward to the commute and have found myself arriving much sooner at my destination than I would have liked and feel annoyed that I need to get off the train.

After I finished up watching all seasons of "The Wire" on the train, I had a bit of difficulties adjusting since I could not really find anything adequate to fill the void and ease the boredom of the crowded and long commute. I tried some other tv series, but nothing really worked that well and could keep my attention on the packed and sweaty trains.

But recently, a friend showed me a "tower defense" game on his iPhone (you know those games where hordes of monsters/enemies come at you and you have to build weapons along the path to make sure that they don't reach the base) that he used to kill the time. Intrigued, I researched a bit and found the game Pixeljunk Monsters that seemed to have great reviews, so I bought it and downloaded it to my PSP... I make a point of only playing it during the commute, but I am getting OCD over getting the "rainbow" (that means clearing each stage perfectly without any monster getting through) on all the levels and have frequently cursed over finding myself at my destination just when I in the middle of a certain hectic wave which I wanted to finish (I can put the game on hold, but those of you who've played it or something similar probably understand my feelings).

So, for the last week, this little game have revolutionized my commuting time, we'll see how long it lasts...

If you can develop a habit of commenting on the game progress in a stage whisper, it may help your commute.

"I see you, you little prick, you won't get past me that easily!"

"Ha!"

Etc.

You can't play real games on a hand held! But you can make an exception if you have a long boring commute.

I'd probably just drool over the hot chicks. Until I got arrested.

There are plenty of good games for handhelds.

That's a fun game - I've played the PS3 version with my friend. It's even better with two people.

I enlarged the image to maximum zoom but still couldn't work out which one you are. Or maybe you're inside?

I had a blissful 3 months of metal gear solid peacewalker on psp on my commute, but once I had clocked it there was no game to fill the gap and I have lowered myself to the likes of reading books.

Rmilner - Well, I've been very close to it; particularly when one nasty little critter passes through my defenses just as I was going for the perfect score...

Aimless - Maybe you should try the morning commute? I can guarantee you that there's not much to drool about and some games are perfectly acceptable as handheld - just not that stupid monster hunter shit that everyone seem to be crazy about here...

Blue Shoe - I concur!

The Penguin - Well, my face is partially obscured by the PSP game machine, I'm the 54th person from the left

Chris - Ok, I'm the first to admit that I have some strong dorky and geeky tendencies, but I think that gaming nowadays is almost acceptable. Playing GTA is as "street" as a game will ever be!

Ljpt - Can that really be good? No denying that the MGS series has been great (if you ignore the story) but I've been quite skeptical to the handhelds, does the controls really work like they should?

my best friend went over to Tokyo a few times during the warmer months and he was most, umm, impressed by the ladies and the amount of flesh on display. Short skirts were mentioned frequently.

When I was over there it was the middle of winter, sadly. Though that didn't stop the less sensible from wearing micro skirts and getting frostbite.
